Career Guidance and Planning

Centre for Business and Entrepreneurship under NED Academy, conducted Xplore & Xcel –Entrepreneurship and leadership Camp for Teenage youth. The programme was of 4 weeks duration and was designed to let the teens explore their strengths and abilities as an entrepreneur, while involving them in STEM, robotics and photography based careers. The enthusiasm shown by the adolescents can be evaluated by the fact that 39 kids participated in the program.

The program was divided in 4 modules, having the duration of a week for each module, namely:

•  Career guidance and planning
•  Young Entrepreneur’s World
•  Let’s Learn Robotics
•  All about Photography

The module about Career Guidance and Planning involved various speakers, including Dr. Rizwan Farooqui- DG NED Academy and Co Chairman Civil Engineering Department, Ms. Zunaira- 19-year old artist and entrepreneur, Mr Khalid Hashmi-Senior Industry Expert and Mr. Danish Haroon , Data scientist and technology entrepreneur working at K.E. Participants were briefed about different careers options to meet the future demands of industry requirements .Trainers also help them identify their goal and vision of life, provide them opportunity to explore career as per their vision and interest .The guest speakers also shared goods and bads about their journey of entrepreneurship and motivate young participants to excel at least one skill in order to become self-sufficient.

The second Module Young’s Entrepreneur World started with introduction about the trainer experience of entrepreneurship and briefly about practices in other parts of world for the promotion of entrepreneurship. Through this module participants learnt about:

•  Two types of entrepreneurial behaviors: Causual vs Effectual
•  The correct role of motivation
•  Financial Literacy
•  Team playing
•  Knowing how to test
•  When is failure and when not

The notorious Trainer Mr. Umair Sani, is cofounder of Biz Factory A 360 degree startup mentoring. He is a visiting faculty for entrepreneurship at various universities and is deeply involved in the startup management, mentoring and facilitation.

Let’s Learn Robotics –the third module was conducted by the startup (Edvon Robotics) founder. Edvon is robotics company which is working throughout Pakistan to escalate the understanding and acceptance of programming and robotics among future generations of the country. The students were engaged throughout the week by conducting interactive classroom sessions. The kids were imparted the knowledge of robotics, basic programming and C++ language, making traffic lights and water overflow, home automation and making line following and obstacle detection robot. The module ended by giving the students an insight into the professional world; by taking them for an industrial visit at Edvon’s manufacturing plant at Surjani town, Karachi.

The speaker designated from the notable robotics company was Mr. Obaid Naqvi; a master trainer at Edvon robotics and Chief Technical Officer at Edvon Robotics.

Fourth Module of Entrepreneurship and Leadership Camp was All about photography, which was inspired by Mr Talha Jamal, an emerging photographer (successfully running his startup Talha J’s Photography). Talha is a responsible Mechanical Engineer at KE during day time and his nights spends capturing beautiful and memorable moments of others life.

The participants learnt about entrepreneur life skills as a photographer. The skills imparted included settings of DSLR, ISO sensitivity, aperture and shutter speed, white balance and equipment, image exposure and composition, use of light in different modes, editing and post processing. The module ended with the students giving a practical.

The first of its kind in the history of NED University Entrepreneurship and Leadership Camp for Teens ended with great experience not only for parents and students but also for the trainers and staff of NED Academy .The course brought another thought of providing such platform with similar activities on regular basis to enhance skillsets, create vision and goal of life at this early stage, and bring innovative and creative mindset. The graduation ceremony was held on 29th July, 2019 on Monday at NED Academy , Where closing statement was shared by Dr Rizwan Farooqi with the participants and their parents and they were provide with the certificate of participation. The attendees were extremely glad about being given such a learning platform from a distinguished university of Pakistan.
