Inventory Management and MRP
Short course on Inventory Management & MRP was first launched in July 1999 from Centre for Continuing Engineering Education (CCEE) now working under the auspices of NED Academy, NED University of Engineering and Technology. This has been a very popular course, which is reflected in the fact that CCEE-NED Academy has been consecutively offering this course since 1999 every following year. With almost two decades of successful deliverance of the course with the same facilitator (Engr. Nasir Mahmood), HROs of Organizations have shown their continuous faith on NED Academy in nominating their Executives / Officers to participate in this course. With continuous updating of the course in line with recent developments in the field, we are confident that the course meets current organizational requirements and provides their nominees with an in-depth understanding and application of modern methods of Inventory Management and Materials Requirement Planning (MRP). This 3-day intensive course on 'Inventory Management and MRP' was launched once again between July 16 to 18, 2018. The objectives of the training were multi-folded: (i) to understand how to proceed towards world class inventory management; (ii) to set benchmarks and prepare KPIs for better control on quality of products; (iii) to highlight lean techniques to improve performance; (iv) to expose the participants to the best inventory management practices around the globe and how to adapt those within our work environments.
In total, 13 participants of public and private sector organizations attended the course. These included Sr. Executives, Executives, Sr. Manager Procurement & Store, Asst. Manager MRP Specialist, Assistant Manager Supply Chain, Engineers and the like. It was heartening to witness that private organizations showed very keen interest in the course and more than 70% of the attendees came from corporate sector. Following key organizations participated in the event: Security Papers Limited, Atlas Engineering Limited, Hinopak Motors, IBA Karachi, Pearl Confectioner, etc.

Lectures, presentations, handouts, in-class exercises, experiential learning, interactive discussions, Q/A sessions and problem solving were used as learning methodologies to facilitate the participants and get the best out of the 3-day course. Networking hi-teas were used to discuss concepts and practical problems. Participants fulfilling all training requirements were declared successful. 100% success rate was achieved and all participants were able to earn Certificate of Competence. The trainer nominated two participants to be awarded for their distinct participation namely: Mr. Muhammad Ahsan secured the shield for 1 st position and Mr. Asif Aijaz secured the shield for 2 nd position
Body of knowledge covered in the training included: Strategies in Inventory Management, How to proceed towards world class, Benchmarking and KPIs, Using lean to improve inventory performance, Impact of smart manufacturing on inventory management, MUSIC 3D, Problem solving techniques, Managing people effectively, How lean helps in inventory improvement, Vendor managed inventory, MRP processing logics, Using demand forecasting in fluctuating market, Impact of warehousing practices, Role of material handling, Factors to consider while replenishing inventory, Improving inventory record accuracy.
The training was unanimously evaluated as remarkable and all participants stated their maximum level of contentment with the training content as well as deliverance; in particular, Mr. Muhammad Sohail Khan from IBA-Karachi, highly appreciated the design of the course.
At end of the training, Certificate Award Ceremony was held where Dr. Bilal Zahid (Director CCEE, NED University) was Chief Guest. The Chief Guest distributed Certificates of Competence to all successful participants and the Certificates of Appreciation for distinct participation to Mr. Muhammad Ahsan from Syntech Fibers LTD and Mr. Asif Ejaz from Pearl Confectionery. The Ceremony ended with award of Shield of Honour to the esteemed trainer.
