Become a Successful Owner Manager
Centre for Business and Entrepreneurship under NED Academy and Shell Tameer, jointly organized “Become a Successful Owner Manager “through Final Year project Development and Commercialization Support programme. The graduation ceremony of 20 Startup ideas was held in National incubation centre –NED University on 27th June 2019.
The programme was designed to train final year students with commercially viable projects. Participants received extensive three months trainings on Enterprise development, Business Planning , Financial model of startups and business legalities. The participants also receive d mentoring opportunities which will later help in transforming their FYP into startups.
The purpose of Pitch and Mentoring Event was to celebrate budding entrepreneurs who have successfully completed their Shell Tameer enterprise development training and developed business feasibilities for commercialization of their final year projects.
60 innovators from Electrical, Electronics, Urban, Mechanical, Textile ,Computers Information systems and Computer Science and IT departments ,presented 20 innovative ideas in four diverse categories of Energy, Health, Technology and Sustainable Social Change to a panel of mentors comprising of experts from industry, academia, Shell Tameer alumni and partner networks who critically assessed each presentation and counseled the young to help them become sustainable startups.
The winning ideas presented were La’al (The Red), a tech-based solution to connect blood donors and the patients through an app for a fast and reliable supply of blood to save lives. SENSE is an Smart energy management switch which will monitor , manage and control energy consumption and can ultimately decrease the energy consumption.
On the other hand, An android mobile application providing a platform to customers to connect to the venue is developed by the students of CSIT department. The venues for wedding, corporate and social events will be listed on this application and customer can directly book as per their requirements.
Whereas Resource Recovery Developing Solutions, have designed an alternate for manhole covers by using old tyres. The product will reduce the rubber waste while providing a durable and theft proof road safety solution.
The formal ceremony preceded an enlightening session on “the theory of effectuation” by Dr. Shahid Qureshi- Director Centre for Entrepreneurial Development CED, Institute of Business Administration.
Dr. Sarosh Hashmat Lodi Vice-Chancellor NED University of Engineering and Technoilogy, Mr. Habib Haider – Country External Relations Manager – Shell Pakistan Limited and Dr. Rizwan ul Haque Farooqui, Director General NED Academy shared nuggets of wisdom to navigate the challenges young start-ups face at the closeout ceremony and distributed certificates of completion to the students.
“It is heartening to see the innovative and enterprising ideas produced by these young engineers given the right mentoring and opportunity. Engineers will always be needed to spread their expertise across STEM fields, and we believe that it is essential to nurture their entrepreneurial flair alongside their technical skills.’
The training programme do not only intend to provide continuous support and opportunities to participants through Shell Tameer and NED Incubation center to grow and sustain their startups, but also is a real example of Industry Academia linkages, where industries are also thriving to collaborate with academia to nurture young entrepreneurs.
