ABOUT COURSE

Course 1. Garment Manufacturing Fundamentals

Overview of apparel industry and types of articles, Apparel product development process, Garment Preparatory Process, Fabric Spreading and cutting, Sewing Process, Sewing Machine Fundamentals, Garment Washing, Finishing and Packing, : Apparel Accessories & Work Aids, Material Handling Techniques.

Course 2. Computer Aided Pattern Design and Product Development

Fashion Forecasting, Conceptualization, Material and color selection, Style selection and feasibility, Mass customization in apparel industry, Improving apparel size and fit, Computerized pattern grading, Digitizing, Computerized pattern making in garment production, Model and Order making, Marker Making.

Course 3. Advanced Garment Production Processes

CUTTING TECHNIQUES AND EQUIPMENT’S: Spreaders and spreading tables, capacity calculations, cutting equipment’s, automatic cutter and numbering equipment’s. Malfunctioning of auto cutters and spreaders. Garment software application: Lectra, Gerber and Tukatech techniques and uses. SEWING TECHNIQUES, MACHINES AND MAINTENANCE: Stitches and seam classification and their implication. Pleats, flares, flounces, smocking, tucking. Sewing machine maintenance: Causes of machine malfunction, classification of machine maintenance, sewing machine cleaning and troubleshooting sewing problems.Intelligent sewing systems: Application of electronic control systems in sewing machines design. GARMENT FINISHING: Capacity calculations, quality in finished goods, line concepts, identification and rectification of sewing faults, shading and sizing techniques. Packing techniques and types, reporting systems. GARMENT WASHING: Chemical requirement, Effects of chemical, concept of wash and neutralization process. Types of equipment for dry finishing; whisker and scrapping techniques. Laser Technology: Heat control mechanism during laser process. Design and implication of grading software applications. ERGONOMICS DESIGN OF WORKPLACE: Ergonomics principles in designing: workplace, working processes, determining working time, handling material and tools.   Introduction of Methods Time Measurement (MTM) standards. Design of Work aids.

Course 4. Sewn Product Engineering

Concepts of Production and Productivity, Role of Industrial Engineer in Apparel Production, Work and Method Study, Work Measurement and Time Study, Motion Economy and PDTMS. Job Design and Learning Curves, Apparel Layout Planning, Material Handling and Apparel Production Systems, Dexterity and Ergonomics, Line Balancing, Operation Breakdown, Calculations of IE and Garment Costing, Measurement and Control of Wastages in Apparel Production.

Course 5. Garment Quality Management

Design satisfaction tests, Fabric specification - cloth defects - four point system - shrinkage potential, Garment specification - manufacturing specification - name of operation and associated details in respect of sewing, dyeing and washing of garments, Garments testing-seam strength ,seam slippage ,garment checking procedure, interlining-peel bond strength Style features - trims specification - stitch specification - size scale – garment dimensions and tolerances. Quality of trims and accessories, Defects in garments and their remedies - A, B and C zones in a garment with respect to defects. Quality management concepts, Quality control and inspections - S.Q.C. - acceptance sampling - T.Q.M. - I.S.O. Laboratory testing for quality and performance.
