Skill or Vocation based jobs (except for ICT) are rarely aspired to in Pakistan and historically have always been looked down upon as occupations of the “poor, working class”.
As a result, Pakistan ranks 147 out of 188 countries in the Human Development Index.
Despite the highest industry demand for skilled labour in Pakistan coming from the manufacturing sector, the Representation of women & persons with disabilities in this sector is non-existent.
Inability to compete on the basis of relevant skills and competencies that employers need is a key factor causing high youth unemployment.
Schools & organisations in Pakistan willing to become inclusive and add TVET to their curricula are unable to find sustainable, cost effective solutions to help them make the transition.
A highly saturated and competitive pool of human resources, coupled with the fact that economic success largely benefits a small, privileged class, is causing the bulk of the lower to middle income demographic to lose its patience & hope.
